Typical repair cost, by problem

The main problem for this generation is a brake booster defect where the brake pedal can go to the floor with reduced stopping power — often with no warning light, removing the driver's advance notice. It's addressed through CSP 13N02, an extended 10-year/150,000-mile warranty rather than a formal recall, the same arrangement used for the brake booster problem on the Mazda CX-9.

PROBLEM DETAILS

Brake booster failure

Brake pedal goes to the floor, reduced stopping power, spongy pedal — often with no warning light

Check engine light: Off

The most prevalent problem for this generation by complaint volume: recurring brake booster failures where the pedal can go to the floor with reduced stopping power. Ford addressed this through CSP 13N02, an extended warranty (10 years/150,000 miles) rather than a formal recall. The most dangerous pattern described is that these failures can occur WITHOUT any warning light, removing the driver's normal advance notice.

Multiple owners report their vehicles were not included in the more limited recall coverage that exists alongside CSP 13N02. No specific recall campaign number was identified to confirm which vehicles are covered.

Backup camera malfunction

Check engine light: Off

Backup camera images displaying upside down or going completely blank. A backup camera recall (Campaign 23V342) exists but, per complainant reports, applies to other/newer Ford models and not this vehicle's 2011 model year — leaving this generation's owners without recall coverage for a matching defect.

A model-year coverage exclusion: the recall exists, but this vehicle's model year is outside its scope.

Brake hydraulic / ABS component failure

ABS module valve failures, hydraulic control unit malfunctions

Check engine light: On

Cooling system failure

Coolant leaks, overheating, fan malfunction

Check engine light: On

Water pump failures (the pump is internal to the front cover, making replacement notably labor-intensive since it requires partial engine disassembly), cooling fan malfunctions, and radiator leaks.
